RAISE exists to champion the Third Sector’s unique contribution to making South East England socially, economically and environmentally sustainable.
This post will be pivotal in ensuring that the RAISE mission is understood and implemented within the strategic framework outlined in the RAISE Business Plan 2008-11, by supporting the organisation to engage effectively with its members and stakeholders, manage information efficiently and maximise the use of the information to enable it to influence policy.

Human Rights - Where are we now?
Diverse, Human, Equal: The Role of the VCS in Equality and Human Rights
On December 4th RAISE is running a very special event at Reading Town Hall. The event will bring together three of the leading organisations working on equality and human rights:
- The Government Equalities Office (GEO);
- The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC);
- and the British Institute for Human Rights (BIHR).
The day will contain key note speeches, an interactive workshop run by the BIHR, a networking lunch, an opportunity to influence the current consultation of the Business Case for a South East Equalities Network (SEEN) and also hear from three organisations operating on the front line.
This Event is primarily for the voluntary/community sector (VCS). It is free and priority will be given to members of the VCS who have recently undertaken RAISE’s Equality Champion Training. Additional places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

You are invited to contribute to public consultation on plans
for new places to live for Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling
Showpeople in South East England. Consultation by the
South East England Regional Assembly runs until 21
November. The Assembly wants views on 10-year targets
for new spaces, and how they should be spread across the
region.
Key consultation questions include:
- Is 1,064 spaces for Gypsies and Travellers a suitable
10 year target?
- Is 276 spaces for Travelling Showpeople a suitable
10 year target?
- Which of four options gives the most suitable spread of
spaces across the region?
The Assembly’s work will agree how many spaces are
needed in each council area; individual councils will decide
the exact location of new spaces.

Compact Debate Underway
As the Compact reaches its tenth anniversary, the Commissioner for the Compact, Sir Bert Massie, has called for a debate on its future and that of the Compact Commission. The Compact, which is an agreement of shared values, principles and commitments to partnership working between Government and the voluntary/community sector, is widely
regarded as needing an update and this will involve a review of its five codes of practice.
RAISE will be producing a response to the consultation,
which continues 10th November, and is interested in your views on the Compact’s future.
Do you find your local compact effective? Do you think legal enforcement of the Compact
is a good idea?
